Part 1: Case Study and Context
You must gather some basic information from news sources or reports that describes the scale, scope, and magnitude of the disaster event that you chose to study. You will produce a summary of your findings highlighting the following information: 1) description of the disaster event, 2) social cost of disaster event and 2) estimates of how many people were affected and death toll.
Part 2: Social Autopsy
Using academic material to support your argument, you will address three basic questions about your case in a long format:
1) What social dimension do you want to focus on and why would it matter?
2) How was your selected social dimension involved or present in the disaster you choose?
2) How would you apply a sociological lens to understand or explain some of the social ramifications of this disaster event?

6-8 pages (Not including title page and references)
Double spaced
12 point – Time New Roman
Sources
Minimum of 5 academic scholarly articles that deal with selected social dimension (max. of 2 from class readings)
Unlimited non-academic news sources that deal with case study (newspapers, news magazines, or news reports of other sort; websites are fine, just make sure and verify the information for accuracy). MOVIES or DOCUMENTARIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Maximum of 2 quotes from articles (academic or news) in total.
