What we are looking for in these papers is for you to develop a conversation with
concepts in the course readings, and to take that conversation forward in some form—e.g.
via developing an argument in relation to them or calibrating their application (versus
not) to specified slices of the real-life world.
You might simply give me your unique take on issues introduced in the readings or you
might tell me which theoretical perspective introduced in class can provide the best
explanation for the various social phenomena/concepts you’re writing about. You might
even make theoretical connections between readings from one particular week’s readings
to another. Or, so long as you provide sound reasons, you could tell me why you think
the ideas put forth in the readings are incorrect or misguided. On the other hand, you
might tell me how the readings relate to your life and/or how they might have made you
rethink the way you perceive the social world. Be creative! The best of the best reaction
papers will be able to incorporate more than just one of these elements.
Most crucially, your paper must be conceptually anchored in material from the
corresponding unit of the class (e.g. the Gender reaction paper must possess some
substantial footing in the assigned gender readings). You need not discuss all the
readings (in fact I wouldn’t recommend it), but you must address a core concept at some
point in your paper. I want you to pursue what interests you most!
I posted a paper I have already written just want it to be stronger.
This is for SOC 1101, and these are the readings and book assigned with this specific reaction paper
